About Me

Andrea Beltran lives on the west Texas border and moonlights as a writer. She’s currently putting a poetry chapbook together and researching MFA programs. She joined Referential Magazine as Web Editor in June of 2012.

The seed was planted long ago, but not harvested. A love for life, for words, for the art that is poetry which is fed from the poetry that is life. Rainer Maria Rilke wrote, "...have patience with everything that is unsolved in your heart and try to cherish the questions themselves..."

There is much that remains unsolved in my heart, and it is through reading, writing, and observing life that I feel free to embrace the questions and explore their possible answers.

  1. "...have patience with everything that is unsolved in your heart and try to cherish the questions themselves..." I really really love this quote. I think that is brilliant and I will definitely have to start exploring more of Rilke. I have been reading a lot about the life of Thomas Jefferson lately as well as Viktor Frankl and self-actualization most recently.

If you haven't already, then I recommend you read "Man's Search for Meaning" by Frankl and also check out an interview (see link below) with Daniel Boorstin on PBS. The section I'm most referring to starts with the question "What's the genius of Thomas Jefferson?" This section discusses the importance of one's life related to seeking. I gather that in some way is what Rilke was getting at with the quote. http://www.pbs.org/jefferson/archives/interviews/Boorstin.htm

    Cheers!
