We Love the Ones that Won't Open Most

So, the years go by and we find a few doors and windows.
Some are always open, some were never open.
Because we are crazy and stubborn,
we love the ones that won't open most.
     - from "Able to Say It" by Naomi Shihab Nye

These four lines have been haunting me for days...

  1. I'm doing a lot of musing this weekend and this strikes me as well. Why do we always seem to want "more" instead of having the ability to enjoy what is here now. Especially as writers who constantly look back.

  2. Maybe that's our curse as writers, the constant reflection, the feeling comfort in nostalgia. I've been wondering about your very question, Jessie. Hopefully the answers seeking this questions are positive ones.

  3. Oh, isn't it the truth? A powerful and honest line, if I ever saw one.

  4. Thanks for stopping by, Janna. Enjoy your week. :)
